Jay Leno is one of the most well-known people who host TV shows. In his career of more than 30 years, he has been known as an actor, TV host, producer, writer, comedian, and a lot of other things. One thing that hasn’t changed about him over the years is that he loves cool and unique cars. Some of Jay Leno’s shows, like Jay Leno’s Garage, have helped him show off how much he loves cars and how many he owns. So it shouldn’t be a shock that he owns more than 275 cars. Jay Leno loves all of them, even though they are all different in terms of brand, style, and how they work. Here are just a few of the top 40 cars in his impressive collection.
Page Contents:
1967 Miura P400
This Italian sports car has been around for quite a long time. Before Jay got his hands on it, someone else with a big name had it. The singer Dean Martin used to own it. When it came out, the car was the only one of its kind.
It was one of the first cars to be called a “supercar” because of how fast it was and how far ahead of its time its features were. This made other car companies improve their cars so they could keep up.
The Panthercar
If you’ve ever watched The Pink Panther on TV, this car should look familiar. It was built just for the show’s opening credits! That is a pretty amazing thing to do, and it also cost a lot of money.
Ed Newton, who made the car, chose to use the frame of an Oldsmobile Toronado to build this beautiful car. Even so, it was expensive; the whole thing cost around $100,000. How much did it cost?
1932 Morgan
This is one of the older cars that Jay Leno has in his collection, and we think he must be very proud of it. This car is different from most new cars because it only has three wheels instead of four.
Even so, this car left a big mark on the cars that came after it. Its cooler system doesn’t use a fan, but instead uses water. The Model T car by Ford was based on this idea. It’s old, but it’s still good!
1966 Lincoln Continental
This car might not be in perfect shape, but it’s pretty close, and we think Jay Leno still likes it. There are only a few small marks on it that make it look old and worn.
Even so, this car is pretty special because only 21,347 like it were ever made. We don’t know why, because it looks so perfect and classic. It should be just as fun to drive, we hope.
427 Shelby Cobra
Now, it’s time for another famous car. Jay Leno loves the 427 Shelby Cobra the most, and you can often see him driving around with it. We can see why, because the car is beautiful.
You may know about this car for a variety of reasons. A few years ago, this car was redesigned and updated so that it could be used as part of a fully electric Tesla vehicle. But we like the first design better because it’s so sleek.
2017 Ford GT
This car is one of the newest on this list, but that doesn’t make it any less special. It was first shown at the Detroit Auto Show in 2015, and Jay Leno fell in love with it there.
Unfortunately, buying the car was not so easy. Jay had to go through a pretty strict application process, just like everyone else who wanted it. Even though he knew Ford for a long time, it didn’t make things go faster or easier.
1969 Lamborghini Espada
The next car on our list is pretty important to Jay, but not in the way you might think. We agree that it looks kind of old and is for sure a classic car. Can you guess what makes it unique?
This is because, when he first started driving, this was the only car he had. Even though he has put a lot of miles on the car, he still seems pretty proud of it.
2006 GM EcoJet
When this car was first shown at a car show in Las Vegas, it was a pretty big deal. Even so, this car’s engine was a jet turbine, and it could go up to 150 miles per hour.
Sad to say, it didn’t catch on, and people soon forgot about it. It seems like car fans like Jay Leno are the only ones who remember this car, probably because it looks so old. It looks like it was made in the 2000s.
1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe
This car is another classic from a time when safety wasn’t as important as it is now. It doesn’t have power steering or brakes, for example. This old-fashioned car would have been hard to drive on the road.
Despite that, Jay still added it to his collection. Jay was able to bring the car back to its former glory with a few coats of paint and new tires. Even so, we wouldn’t drive it!
1964 Honda S600
If you drove this car on a highway today, other drivers might give you a few strange looks because it looks so old. But don’t worry, people did the same thing when it first came out!
This car has a small engine, and in the 1960s, it looked even smaller next to the huge cars on the highway. Because of how big it is, you can’t use it to go grocery shopping.
1952 MG TD Hot Rod
When you look at this vehicle for the first time, you might think it’s just a normal car from the 1950s, and you’d be mostly right. But if you look at the back, you might have a different opinion…
The back tires of this car are much bigger than the front ones. We don’t know why they were made so big, but we think it helps the car go faster. This car has 340 horsepower, which is very powerful.
1906 Stanley Steamer Vanderbilt Cup Racer
Another pretty old car, this one is more than 100 years old. The only power source for this vehicle is steam, which was pretty common at the time. In 2007, Jay decided to fix up the car, but he ran into a lot of problems along the way.
The problems were fixed, and Jay was able to put it back together, though he added a few things to make it a little easier to drive. Still, it looks pretty dangerous to us!
1969 Miura S
Here’s another car that could fool you if you only look at it quickly. This car looks like a regular Italian supercar; there’s nothing special about the way it looks. In fact, it has a four-liter engine that can make up to 375 horsepower.
Many people also think it’s one of the most beautiful cars out there. This is all because Bertone Design House made it. We can’t disagree with this evaluation. Even in that shade of orange, this car is beautiful.
1989 Bentley Turbo R
When this car was first shown at the Geneva Auto Show in 1985, Americans wouldn’t be able to buy it for another 3 years. But it looks like those years were worth it.
The car has four doors and can go up to 145 miles per hour. Its engine is just under 7 liters, which is pretty impressive. We can see why Jay would want to add this revolutionary car to his collection.
1950 Mercedes Transporter
Even though this is probably one of the ugliest cars on this list, Jay Leno loves it. Mercedes made it to help tune up cars during races, so looks weren’t the most important thing.
You might not believe it, but this taxi can go faster than 105 miles per hour. It makes sense, though, because the cars it would fix would go much faster than this one ever could.
2015 BAC Mono
With this car from 2015, we’re going back to the modern cars. This car was made for Formula races and goes very fast, but we think it would also look pretty good on the road.
It has a carbon chassis and pushrod suspension, which are two parts that help the car get its 280 horsepower. Since there is only one seat, this is only made for driving for fun.
1966 Oldsmobile Toronado
This entry is very similar to another on this list, but it is different in a few ways. For example, this car has an engine that is 7 liters and has 8 cylinders. It can go as fast as 135 mph.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that Jay Leno wanted to give the car a little more character. He changed the front seats into bucket seats so that there would be enough room in the back for the chassis tunnel.
Blastolene Special
This car looks like it could be very dangerous! This car wasn’t sold to the public because it was made just for Randy Grubb, a well-known car enthusiast. At 8500 pounds, it is a pretty heavy car.
This is one of Jay’s favorite cars, so you might see him driving it down the street. The car used to be an American military tank, and the engine is still from one. What an odd thing to do!
1955 Mercedes 300SL
When this car was first released, people did not realize how ground-breaking this vehicle actually was. After all, it has gullwing doors and fuel injection, as well as an independent suspension system. Jay Leno could not resist buying it!
He only had to make a few changes to it, mostly to the engine and to make it work better in the modern world. The pictures show that the rest of the car is completely unharmed.
1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II
With 1000 horsepower, this car is likely one of the most powerful ones on this list. Since it has a Merlin v-12 engine, that shouldn’t be a big surprise. It looks better than the pictures show.
If that wasn’t enough, when someone drives the car, it makes more than 1800 pounds of torque. We think that with a little more paint and some new wheels, this car could be turned into a real beauty.
1928 Bugatti Type 37A
Here’s another vehicle made for one person and not for a family. You might see Jay Leno driving this car on the highway, since it can easily reach 100 miles per hour. What an absolute beast!
The car is almost 100 years old, so that’s pretty strange. The car has a driveshaft that goes from the flywheel to the gearbox. This is a big part of how fast it can go. We’re really blown away!
1993 LCC Rocket
Here’s yet another car that Jay can’t help but drive around Los Angeles. You might be curious about how it got the name “rocket.” If you look at the picture, you should be able to tell why.
Even though it doesn’t look like the most comfortable car, it only weighs about 850 pounds and is pretty good for driving. It can also go this fast because it has 165 horsepower and a Yamaha engine.
1972 Mercedes 600 Kompressor
With this old car, hydraulics is the name of the game, since almost everything inside it works with hydraulics. That includes the windows, which were a pretty innovative addition when the car was first made.
It’s no surprise that this car is the ancestor of many well-known cars today, like the S Class. But this car is nowhere near as easy to take care of because it needs a lot of work to keep running well.
Jet-Mobile
If you look at a picture of this car, you should be able to figure out where its name comes from. The shape of its wings makes it look almost like a jet plane. But it’s not the easiest thing to drive.
Given how much Jay Leno likes cars, there’s no way he could say no to picking up a car that looks so strange. It may not be the best way to drive, but it sure is interesting to look at!
1963 Jaguar E-Type
For many of the cars on this list, Jay Leno and his team had to work for a long time to fix them up. This car is no different—it took a whopping 3000 hours to fix everything up.
We think it was worth it, though, because the car is so beautiful and has such a classic, sleek look. Jay Leno’s team replaced the metal in the car’s body with aluminum to make it a little lighter.
2012 McLaren MP4-12C
Another one of Jay’s favorite cars is this one. When he finally got the keys to it, he went completely crazy. So, don’t be surprised if you see Jay driving around town in the McLaren with a big smile on his face.
This car was made just for Jay, and he was able to test drive it in Britain. He took the chance, and as they say, the rest is history! We agree that it was worth it.
1962 Maserati 3500 GTi
Going to a storage locker to see what you can find can be a pretty useful thing to do. Sometimes, you can find a real treasure, like Jay did with this one. He paid $25,000 for a storage unit.
He was looking for a different car, but he ended up buying this Maserati with 100,000 miles on it. The car was in pretty good shape, so he was glad he bought it, even though it was expensive.
2017 Acura NSX
This list needs another modern addition, and this time it’s a car from 2017. But this car is a bit different from the others on this list because it has a hybrid engine.
If you didn’t know, this means that part of the car runs on electricity and part on gas. This gives the car 573 horsepower, which is a lot of power. On top of that, you can control all four wheels of the car.
1981 DeLorean DMC-12
From car flops to famous cars, this is probably the most famous one on this list. The DeLorean car from Back to the Future that could go back in time shouldn’t be hard to spot. It looks so amazing!
This is the original car that was used in the movie, and it’s worth a lot. We’re not surprised that Jay bought this car, because if we had the money, we would do the same thing.
1963 Corvette Split-Window Coupe Fuelie
At first glance, this might look like any other Corvette. But readers with sharp eyes or people who really like Corvettes will be able to see the differences. What do you think they are? Pay attention…
This 1963 Corvette is the only one with these mirrors, wheel covers, screws, and a hood. This makes it a pretty rare car, which is clear from the way the windows are split. What a beautiful car!
2017 Audi R8 Spyder
This car was made not too long ago, but it is still pretty good. The car is one of a kind because the engine was changed to a V-10 during the building process. It was also changed to an automatic transmission.
All of these changes ended up taking two years, so the car didn’t come out until 2017. Jay Leno was still determined to buy the car and put it in his garage, despite all the problems.
1963 Chrysler Turbine
When it was first shown to the public, this car was so cool that it was included in the New York World’s Fair in 1964! There were a few problems at first, like how loud the turbine was and how diesel had to be used.
At the time, this made it much harder to use because leaded gas was much cheaper and easier to find. The car didn’t do as well as it should have, and many drivers chose not to buy it.
1994 McLaren F1
Let’s say you own a car from 1994. How much do you think this car is worth, in your opinion? Could you have imagined that it would be around $12 million? Jay paid exactly that much for this rare McLaren.
So, it makes a lot of sense that Jay Leno said this car is the first one from his garage that he would save if something bad happened. We really, really hope that doesn’t happen.
1950 Nash Ambassador
Here is another car that is pretty new. Today, we might think that many of its features are pretty standard, but at the time, they were pretty cutting-edge. There was a new type of air conditioning and a transmission called ultramatic, which was praised at the time.
Jay didn’t do anything to change this car, so it still looks like it did when he bought it. All he did was give it a good polish. This car is an important part of history that needs to be kept safe.
1931 Shotwell
There are a lot of things about this vehicle that are very impressive. No, it’s not how old the car is, even though that’s kind of cool. It’s actually the fact that a 17-year-old boy made the car and that it has three wheels.
Bob Shotwell made the whole thing. He did it in his garage with an Indian motorcycle engine. Jay made some changes to the car, like adding a fuel pump and a cooling system, to make it go a little faster.
1969 Lotus Elan
When Jay first bought this car, it was in terrible shape. The inside was a mess, and the outside was not only ugly but also full of dents! Surprisingly, it was fixed in only 18 months.
Jay said his goal for the car was to make it the “ultimate Lotus.” We think it’s safe to say that he reached his goal, since the car looks better than it ever has.
1913 Merce Raceabout
No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. This is a car, not a tractor. It’s easy to make this mistake because the bright yellow car and the fact that it doesn’t have a shell on the outside make it look very strange.
This is not a car you could drive on the road today. Still, it was a popular sports car and one of the first. If you’re lucky, it can even get up to about 100 miles per hour.
2012 Tato Nano
Money seems like it would never be a problem for someone as wealthy as Jay Leno. Even so, he still buys cars like the Tato Nano, which at $3,400 is known as the “world’s cheapest car.”
What a bargain! Even though the car is small, it has 38 horsepower. Jay couldn’t help but make it a little bit better by giving it alloy wheels. We think that now that he’s touched it, it’s probably worth a lot more.
1918 Pierce-Arrow Model 66
This is another car on this list that Jay has decided not to fix up at all, so it still looks like it did when it was new. The choice to keep the 14-liter engine was made for a good reason.
The car is one of the last ones to be made on the original line from 1916, so Jay wanted to keep it as close as possible to how it was when it was first made. Of course, it did need to be cleaned and polished a bit for it to look nice.
1959 Oldsmobile Super 88
Even though this car has a strange name, don’t be fooled by it. It’s a beast under the hood! The car has 315 horsepower and is so loud that everyone will hear you driving around.
Even if that wasn’t enough, the big trunk and bright lights would be enough to get anyone’s attention. Check out this vehicle the next time you see it speeding down the highway.
