Elon Musk’s company’s best-selling electric SUV, the Tesla Model Y, is getting a third-row refresh coming by the end of 2024
Tesla has unveiled a major new feature for the European market: the Model Y, already the Californian automaker’s best-selling model, will also be available in a 7-seater configuration by the end of 2024. This option, designed for large families or those who need more space, adds a third row of folding seats that increase the vehicle’s capacity. The 7-seater configuration will be reserved for the all-wheel drive Long Range version of the Tesla Model Y, with an additional cost of €2,500 over the base price of €51,990. This brings the total cost of the car to €54,490 for those who want to take advantage of this new option. The new additional seats will be visible at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, where the updated version of the Model Y will make its official debut.
The two third-row seats are accessible through the rear doors, thanks to the ability to slide the second row of seats forward with a simple button. Once the function is activated, the second-row seatbacks fold, allowing easy entry and exit from the third row. The occupants of this row have access to two USB-C sockets for charging electronic devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and their heads are positioned directly under the rear window.
Tesla Model Y Now Also Has 7 Seats: Acceptable Compromises
With the addition of the third row, the Tesla Model Y’s cargo capacity drops to 363 liters behind the last row of seats, versus 854 liters for the five-seater version. However, with the third and second rows folded down, maximum cargo space increases to 2,040 liters, a minimal difference compared to the 2,158 liters of the standard five-seater version. The “frunk” (front cargo area) capacity remains unchanged, maintaining a capacity of 117 liters.
The 7-seater Tesla Model Y Long Range maintains the same performance as the 5-seater version. It has two electric motors with a total power of 514 hp and 493 Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive and a 77 kW battery. The declared autonomy in the WLTP cycle is 533 km. The maximum speed is 217 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h occurs in just 5 seconds. The first deliveries of the 7-seater Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD are scheduled for the end of 2024, offering a new versatile option for those looking for an electric vehicle with greater transport capacity without sacrificing performance and advanced technology.
